Preparing for Parenthood
A couples workshop with Katie Fortune, MA, LPC, NCC
You’re building a life together, and now you’re growing your family. That shift changes everything—the way you communicate, the way you rest, and the way you reach for each other in the dark.
Preparing for Parenthood is a dedicated space to slow down and learn the language you’ll need when sleep is thin and emotions run high. Grounded in evidence-based couples therapy, this isn't a lecture—it's practice. You’ll learn to hear each other through the stress, name what you need from your partner, and build a relationship strong enough to carry the weight of new parenthood.
Whether you’re trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or already in the thick of early parenthood, you are welcome here. Join us for the full series or drop in for the sessions that speak to you most.
What we move through together
Introduction to the Transition to Parenthood.
Parenthood isn't just a new role. It's one of the deepest shifts you'll move through. We start by naming what's actually changing: in your brain, your body, your sense of self, and the space between you.
Communication Under Stress.
Stress rewires how you listen. We teach you how to stay soft when your nervous system wants to shut down, how to start hard conversations without them spiraling.
Emotional Changes & Perinatal Mental Health.
Hormones aren't just mood swings. We walk through what perinatal mental health actually looks like, for the person carrying and the partner standing beside them.
Conflict Cycles & Emotional Triggers During the Perinatal Transition.
Hormones aren't just mood swings. We walk through what perinatal mental health actually looks like, for the person carrying and the partner standing beside them.
Roles, Responsibilities, & Mental Load.
The mental load doesn't split itself. We get honest about default parenting, invisible labor, and how to build a system that doesn't leave one person holding it all.
Intimacy, Body Changes, and Connection.
Physical changes reshape how you feel in your own skin and how you reach for each other. We talk about body image, pelvic floor health, intimacy during the perinatal period, and how to communicate with your care team when it matters most.
Preparing for Postpartum Mental Health & Adjustment.
What the early weeks actually feel like. Feeding, adjustment, identity, and the emotional experiences that fathers and partners carry too, often in silence.
Miscarriage, Infant Loss, & Reproductive Trauma
Because grief doesn't follow a timeline, and neither should support. A space to process loss together.
